Fostering Excellence in Research: LRI UMY Benchmarks with Thammasat University, Thailand
Bangkok (13/1) – The Research and Innovation Institute (LRI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) conducted a benchmarking visit to Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand. This initiative aimed to enhance governance in the fields of research, innovation, and publication.
The event was officially opened with a welcoming address by the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at Thammasat University, Assoc. Prof. M.L. Pinitbhand Paribatra, Ph.D., who expressed his appreciation for the visit. He emphasized the importance of inter-university collaboration in building a superior and sustainable research ecosystem.
“We warmly welcome UMY’s initiative to use Thammasat University as a reference for advancing research and innovation. This collaboration is expected to enrich experiences and spark new ideas beneficial for both parties,” stated the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at Thammasat University during his speech.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukamta, S.T., M.T., IPU, ASEAN Eng., expressed gratitude for the warm reception from Thammasat University. He affirmed that this activity is a strategic step for UMY to continue improving its competitiveness in research, innovation, and publication at both national and international levels.
“We believe this benchmarking visit will provide new insights for LRI UMY to develop governance that is more innovative and relevant. Our focus is on creating a research ecosystem that is not only productive but also makes a real contribution to society,” he said.
In addition, the Head of the Research Strengthening Division at UMY apt. RR. Sabtanti Harimurti, M.Sc, Ph.D, shared insights about the research system at UMY. The presentation highlighted UMY’s structured approach to fostering a research culture, including its funding strategies, collaborative programs, and publication mechanisms aimed at advancing both institutional and societal development.
During the visit, the UMY delegation received in-depth presentations on the governance of research, innovation, and publications at Thammasat University. Interactive discussions were also held, covering topics such as scientific journal management strategies, research funding programs, and efforts to commercialize innovative outcomes. (TN)
