Collaborative Innovation: Centre for Innovation Consultation Universiti Sains Malaysia Collaborate with Research and Innovation Institute Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta

Friday (10/05), the Research and Innovation Institute of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (LRI UMY) received a visit from the Deputy Director of Technology Assessment, Innovation Promotion and Intellectual Property – Centre for Innovation and Consultation Universiti Sains Malaysia (CIC-USM), Dr. Muaz Mohd Zaini Makhtar, B.Eng., M.Sc., Ph.D. Dr. Muaz’s visit to the UMY Research and Innovation Institute was welcomed directly by the Head of the UMY Research and Innovation Institute, Prof. Dr. Dyah Mutiarin, M.Si. Together with the Head of the Innovation and Product Commercialisation Division as well as the Head of the UMY KI Center, Ir. Agus Jamal, M.Eng., IPM.

Apart from being the Deputy Director of Technology Assessment, Innovation Promotion, and Intellectual Property at CIC USM, Dr. Muaz is also a lecturer at the School of Industrial Technology USM as well as an expert in the fields of Microbial Fuel Cell, Fermentation, and Bioreactor Operation. According to Dr. Muaz, UMY is an Islamic campus in Indonesia that has a vision of advanced innovation and resources capable of developing superior technology in Indonesia with Islam as the spirit of its steps.

According to him, this can be seen from the number of intellectual property owned by UMY, ‘UMY is an Islamic campus with a high number of Intellectual Property in Indonesia,’ he said. According to Prof. Dyah Mutiarin, Dr. Muaz’s visit is a valuable honor for UMY, which can be visited by one of the campuses that focuses on developing innovative products and superior technology in Malaysia.

Prof. Dyah Mutiarin also added that this is a good opportunity for UMY to participate in developing technology that is beneficial for the progress of the world and solving community problems, ‘as part of the Muhmmadiyah Association which has the Vision of Progressing Islam, UMY must take the forefront in developing innovative products with a superior technological approach, of course based on Islam as the spirit of its steps’ said Prof. Arin.

Dr Muaz’s visit to LRI UMY resulted in the initiation of cooperation between Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in the field of Technology Transfer and the use of superior innovation products owned by the two campuses for the community. In the future, the cooperation will be implemented into several excellent projects carried out in Malaysia and Indonesia.
