Salatiga, 27 June 2024 – The Research and Innovation Institute of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (LRI UMY) participated in the Innovation Expo organized by Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW). Themed “Innovation as a Blessing for All Creatures,” LRI UMY presented innovations that are beneficial to the environment and humanity. Prof. Dr. Dyah Mutiarin, M.Si., Head of LRI UMY, explained that this theme was inspired by current issues related to the advancement of science and technology, which have led to dehumanization and environmental damage. As stewards of the earth, humans should create innovations that are a blessing to all, rather than causing harm.
At the Expo, LRI UMY showcased several technological products from various fields including agriculture, pharmacy, chemistry, medicine, and mechanics. One highlight was the “Blood Vista Digital,” a device that detects postpartum hemorrhage in mothers using the Internet of Things (IoT). This device is an advanced version of the previous Blood Vista, which relied on manual detection methods.
In addition to the Blood Vista Digital, LRI UMY also presented a human vital signs telemonitoring system called “CovWatch.” CovWatch was developed in response to the challenges of monitoring Covid-19 patients and providing home care services. With CovWatch, hospitals can conduct real-time telemonitoring of patients regardless of their location. The system is also used by companies that require real-time monitoring of their employees’ vital signs, such as in transportation, logistics, healthcare, and other industries.
According to Takaful Pambudi, the Expo Team Leader, UMY’s booth attracted many visitors due to the innovative products on display, such as pyrolized citronella and coconut products including soap, citronella oil, and VCO. Additionally, the Mobile Disinfectant Robot demonstration, which roamed the expo area, drew significant attention to the UMY booth.
The Expo is part of the Gelar Inovasi Harmoni Nusantara (GIHN) event, organized by UKSW to disseminate innovative products and encourage the development of ideas, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial motivation. The event also aims to provide insights into best practices, challenges, and issues in innovation from higher education institutions, government, and industry. GIHN includes other activities such as the Indonesian Leaders Lounge and Teras Rektor. Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, participated as a speaker in the Teras Rektor session.
