Both universities welcome the relations between universities. Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and AIK of UMY, Prof. Faris Al-Fadhat, offers a collaboration program related to double degrees with UGR. In addition to UGR, several UMY lecturers are pursuing further studies and have even graduated from prestigious universities in Spain.

Rudy Suryanto, S.E., M.Acc., Ph.D (Vice Rector for Finance and Assets at UMY) and Ir. Slamet Riyadi, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of the UMY Planning and Development Agency) stated that UMY can adopt several academic factors from UAM. One of the factors is the UAM learning process, which prioritizes quality learning processes, intensive and creative research, and proper employability. UAM owns a non-profit organization that serves as a liaison between the campus and the business world, facilitating the connection between academia and industry. The cooperation center is a governmental organization known as La Fundación Parque Científico de Madrid (Madrid Scientific Park Foundation), where one member is the current rector of UAM.
